Utah Safety & Emissions Testing
As of January 1, 2018, these vehicles are required to pass a Utah Safety Inspection; a commercial vehicle of 10,001 or more GVWR or GCWR, bus or van for hire, ground transportation service providers and a motor vehicle with three or more axles, pulling a trailer, or pulling a trailer with multiple axles.
Vehicle emissions tests are required in Cache, Weber, Davis, Utah, and Salt Lake Counties in Utah.
Visit the Utah Highway Patrol Page for more information about safety & emissions inspections and requirements.
Trailer inspections are also required per federal regulation §396.17 - commercial motor vehicle includes each vehicle in a combination vehicle. For example semitrailers and a converter dolly must each be inspected.
All major trailer systems including suspension, coupling devices, brakes, trailer wheels, hubs, and axles, the trailer frame and of course all lights must be in proper working and safe condition.
